El registro Practice Innovation and Clinical Excellence y el Eighth Joint National Committee

Resumen


El Eighth Joint National Committee tiene varios aspectos polémicos, y uno de estos aspectos lo constituye, la recomendación de aumentar la meta terapéutica en los hipertensos de más de 60 años de edad (sin antecedentes de diabetes, ni enfermedad renal crónica) hasta <150/90 mmHg. En este trabajo se analizan los resultados de un estudio del registro Practice Innovation and Clinical Excellence en el que se incluyeron a 1.185.253 hipertensos atendidos en servicios médicos ambulatorios de los Estados Unidos. Este registro mostró, que aproximadamente el 15 % de los hipertensos cumplen la meta terapéutica menos estricta del Eighth Joint National Committee, pero no la del Seven Joint National Committee (<140/90 mmHg) y que este subgrupo de hipertensos divergentes, es frecuentemente de alto riesgo cardiovascular. Se señalan también sus sesgos.
